Drama at Ingolstadt

After 1. FC Nürnberg bossed the first leg of the Relegation play off at home and went into the second leg with a two goal advantage, they looked to be in total control of the tie. At half time in the second leg, with the score 0-0, they were still looking forward to another year in Bundesliga 2.

However 13 minutes in the second half at Ingolstadt’s Audi Sportpark turned the tie on its head as FCI scored three times to take a 3-2 aggregate lead. With time ticking away, FCN were staring relegation and a first ever season in the third tier in the face.

Yet in the 6th minute of stoppage time, Fabian Schlesinger appeared in the penalty area and scored the most important away goal in the history of Der Club. With the scores now level on aggregate at 3-3, the away goal sees FCN retain their status in Bundesliga 2 for another season and condemns their neighbours to another year of 3 Liga football.
